Disrupting Perfection

Christine’s main influence has been her own personal struggle with perfectionism and how this relationship controls her practice. Her work began with the black and white stripe, perfectly symmetrical and balanced, which she then began to distort.

Inspired by op-artists such as Bridget Riley, Christine uses the technique of slicing to create complex bold visuals from lifeless graphic stripes.

Her collection is made entirely out of, wool, polyester and yarn. Using a specific slicing technique, Christine backs felted wool with bold neon vinyls, before laying the sliced pieces over one another, creating a patterned optical illusion.
