👋 Hi my name is Hyojin Yoo.
I’m a software engineer
with a background in
interactive art.
As an immigrant and queer person, I am empathetic to the needs of diverse communities and committed to making technology more inclusive and approachable.
Drawing from my experience in the arts, I excel in communicating complex ideas in a way that is not only fun and engaging but also intriguing and interesting. I aim to create innovative solutions that tackle technical challenges while also bringing joy and enhancing people's lives.
Education & Experiance
I have a certificate in software engineering from the Flatiron School and a M.F.A in Digital Media from the Rhode Island School of Design. I have experience working on freelance web development projects for a range of clients. As I currently search for the right full time opportunity I am completing a M.S in Data Analysis and Visualization at CUNY, NYC.

Diversity in MoMA
To sharpen my skills in D3.js and Python I created an interactive data visualization of gender and continental diversity of artists whose works were acquired by MoMA over the decades.
Sun Jaegal
Developed an immersive website for Berlin-based artist Sun Jaegal, by making custom multimedia, interactive elements, and animations to showcase her work.
Studio Pssst
Created a website for Studio Pssst, a graphic design studio specializing in media art, branding, and visual communication. I translated website designs into code and built custom design elements such as image/video sliders, interactive elements, and animations.
Nextdoor Cooks
To learn how to combine Ruby on Rails with React.js, I came up with the idea of creating a food recipe-sharing social media app. Features include creating a user account, creating recipes with text, images, and videos, editing or deleting them, and tagging and searching for favorite recipes made by other users.
Doodl
As part of a group assignment while at Flatiron School, I teamed up with my classmate Aleksa Radevich to create this application. Because of our love for drawing, we built a full-stack drawing web application to share and create doodles. It features account authentication and full CRUD.
Vinterest
RGB Skin
An interactive art installation that visualizes the skin colors of participants. Built using a face detection library to generate an average skin color from multiple parts of the face. Participants receive a thermo-printed image of the participant's face, the RGB value of their color patch, the location, and the date.
CTK Lookbook
Branding & Build Fashion Designer Christine Tantiwa Kinson's 2017 SS Collection Lookbook. Built using custom CSS animation, JavaScript, and jQuery. Designed in collaboration with Sun Jaegal & Ryan Smith.
